how it all started

Meet Mac. Mac is totally blind and is the inspiration for Blind Spot.

Here's my story

Blind Spot's Creation

Hi. I'm Mac's mom. I found out Mac was visually impaired when he was 5 weeks old and around closer to 18 months of age, that he couldn't see anything. We were nowhere close to prepared for this. Honestly, I had never even met a person who was blind. I'd been a nurse for fifteen years and knew so little about vision and how drastically it affects your baby's entire development.

Our journey started when Mac was very young, and although we have learned so much in these short 5 years, we still have so much to learn. Through our social media account, I've learned that so many people who are in my shoes do not know the resources their child needs to thrive in a sighted world. I've learned that so many people want to learn how to be a good friend to Mac, but don't know how. I've learned that I have sold Mac short so many times on things I thought he couldn't do, and he proved me wrong.

I started Blind Spot because as a mother of a child who is blind, I have so many blind spots in relation to Mac's abilities. For those who haven't had the opportunity to spend time with someone who is blind, you likely have a large blind spot. My dream is to move the visually impaired out of our blind spots and give them the support they need to dream big and surpass all of our wildest expectations. Thank you for joining me in this mission!

This is Mac and his good friend, who is also totally blind.

Both of these children are doing big things.

Mac is venturing into water sports and she is learning to surf!

As parents, we believe the best thing we can do for our kids is to expose them

to every opportunity and new experience possible.

It takes people around us being willing to adapt sports and

learn to be inclusive for kids like them who are blind.

It isn't that they can't; if we adapt it, they can!

Together, we can do more than we can do alone
