Over the past year, our generous supporters and community sponsors have allowed Blind Spot to share our mission: creating a language of inclusion and providing the visually impaired with the necessary exposures to help them reach their highest potential alongside their sighted peers.
With your support we have partnered with local organizations to create classroom education boxes; provide immersive blind activity-based field trips to metro classrooms; facilitate a mobile STEM unit that improves the understanding of how to adapt current STEM-based education; and create get-to-know-me videos for entire classrooms so those who are blind can learn about their peers more quickly - something sighted individuals are able to learn from visual observations.
In addition to school-based education, we have had the opportunity to host multiple blind immersion dinners for corporate groups interested in expanding their perspectives and inclusion abilities; host community engagement experiences including teaching Goalball and blindfolded rock climbing; and establish a certification for organizations that are inclusive of the blind - meaning appropriate accommodations, inclusive language, and a willingness to expand services for the blind.
We have been so thrilled by the outpouring of support from all of you and equally as impressed by the requests for help through education and inclusion-based activities throughout the KC metro and beyond. The need is truly large.
We would love your support to continue to make our city more inclusive, create awareness and set up our visually impaired and blind community members for the best success possible.
