On September 27th, Blind Spot hosted an incredible evening along with Kansas State School for the Blind and KC Blind All-Stars Foundation at Tall Trellis Brew. Co.
We were honored to have special guest Jerome Avery, Paralympic guide runner,
share his story about guiding Paralympic runners who are blind and teaching us how to guide both with a tether and through auditory cues.
Jerome has been a guide runner for the U.S. Paralympic Track & Field team since 2004. He has guided Lex Gillette, Josiah Jameson and David Brown. In 2016, Jerome and David Brown set the world record for their classification in the 100m. An Olympic hopeful himself, Jerome finished in the top 20 at the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2000 and in the top 15 at the 2004 trials.
Thank you to all of the participants who came out!

We were honored to have Justin Salas join us again at RoKC in Olathe. Justin is a blind Paraclimbing National and World Champion. Justin, along with his fiancée, April Davidson, shared about different abilities and adaptations to enhance inclusion all while having a great time with our amazing community.
We watched Justin's documentary, The Blind Ascensionist, presented by eone and shared some great conversations with the Blind Spot community. Thank you to all who came out to support Blind Spot - and a special thank you RoKC for hosting a wonderful event!

Last Thursday we hosted our second community engagement event at Tall Trellis and had a hugely positive response. The goal of the event was for our Blind Spot community members to bring a friend who doesn't know about our mission to expand the reach of the organization. Our mission at Blind Spot is to create a community that is willing to be a little vulnerable and learn how to be a good friend to those who are blind and visually impaired. We were able to do just that!
We played tic-tac-toe, corn hole and connect four with blindfolds. New guests at this event who had never heard of Blind Spot found the entire experience enriching. Many made it a point to tell us how much they loved that we are working to change the world to become more inclusive for the blind through these experiences. They felt this gave them the opportunity to learn more in a safe space without fear of potentially being offensive and instead being perceived as wanting to learn more. What is equally awesome about this event is the staff had to learn how to best serve those who temporarily removed vision to ensure they had a good experience. It was a great learning experience for all involved!
A huge thank you to all who came! Think of all the typical things those of us who are sighted do on a daily basis without second thought that would be difficult for those without vision without a little guidance. We look forward to future events and we really would love to see you all at our November 3rd event called Discovery! This will be an annual fundraising event that will propel the mission of Blind Spot to enable us to further our reach and impact.

Thanks to the generosity of our Blind Spot community, we were able to raise a net total of $78,980!
We are so excited about the year ahead of us and the work we will be able to do with these funds raised.
We've had several people ask how they can still donate. If you didn't get a chance to donate, but wanted to, please Donate HERE. We'll be sure to include that donation in the total raised at Discovery 2022.
Stay tuned for more information to come from Blind Spot and we look forward to seeing you at our next community event, which will be in the fall. Thank you so much!

We have big things planned for our future and need your help to get us there!
Weren't able to make it to Discovery? You can still donate!
What an amazing event we had in May! A huge thank you to RoKC Olathe for hosting us and to everyone who came out!
So many amazing people attended and had the opportunity to experience blind climbing and a blind whiskey tasting. This led to beautiful conversations about how those who are blind manage their day to day, about Mac, the inspiration for Blind Spot who was born blind, blindness in general and how they have to learn without using sight.
This is exactly what Blind Spot it all about! Creating awareness and teaching others to be a good friend to those who are blind through understanding their world just a little bit better. Thank you all for supporting our mission!
If you attended, did the event have an impact on you? Tag us! #blindspotkc
